"Gallery Wendi Norris worked directly with Leonora Carrington during the last decade of her life and has been the primary global representative for her art since her death in 2011. In that time, the gallery has mounted three exhibitions devoted exclusively to Carrington's work ... the book you hold in your hands is being released on the occasion of Gallery Wendi Norris' third Carrington exhibit, The Story of the Last Egg, which ran from Mary 23-June 29, 2019, in an offsite space in New York City. It is presented as an archive of that exhibit and the accompanying scholarly symposium ... The gallery gathered more than twenty Carrington paintings and sculptures from as many private collections in the United States and Mexico ... Presenting the work chronologically from 1940-1976, the exhibition's goal was to reveal the concurrent development of Carrington's artistic practice and her ecological/philosophical concerns. One witnesses through this collection of work the artist blending the teachings and rites of ancient myth with traditional religion; deploying the powers of ecology, magic, and the female body; and elaborating an urgent, ecofeminist wisdom while offering a creative, life-producing alternative to mankind's violent domination of nature" --Foreword
