Proceedings of a Symposium organized by The Getty Conservation Institute, October 1617, 2012. This selection of papers is from the two-day symposium titled "The Siqueiros Legacy: Challenges of Conserving the Artist's Monumental Murals," which took place at the Getty Center in Los Angeles on October 16 and 17, 2012. The symposium grew out of the Getty Conservation Institute's project, Conservation of América Tropical, which seeks to conserve, interpret and provide public access to the only U.S. public mural by famed Mexican artist David Alfaro Siqueiros still in its original location. The papers from Day One focus on the conservation of América Tropical by the GCI and City of Los Angeles and the creation of the America Tropical Interpretive Center. Day Two includes papers that explore the different aspects of conservation, transportation, installation, and presentation associated with some of Siqueiros's most important murals in Mexico, Argentina, Chile, and Southern California.
