The symposium grew out of the Getty Conservation Institute's project, Conservation of América Tropical, which seeks to conserve, interpret and provide public access to the only U.S. public mural by famed Mexican artist David Alfaro Siqueiros still in its original location. The papers from Day One focus on the conservation of América Tropical by the GCI and City of Los Angeles and the creation of the America Tropical Interpretive Center.
